Mackenzie is heading off to Loyola University Chicago for the Fall of 2008, and this presents a perfect opportunity for a father/daughter ROAD TRIP, with a little backpacking thrown in to justify the whole thing.
Once we are in Chicago, Laurel will fly in to help setup Mackenzie in her dorm and to have some fun. We expect to find her standing outside Wrigley Field chatting it up with scalpers in hopes of scoring Cubs tix.
For the return trip, I will be heading back alone until I hookup with brother Bob. He's flying in to Omaha, and I'll pick him up there. Then it's off for a few days in the wilderness and the drive back to Portland.
Preparations for the SF/Chicago road trip begin by browsing various maps and balancing all that we might want to see against how much time we have. The plan is to get to Chicago on the 19th of August. The two most important destinations during the trip are Rocky Mountain National Park and Yellowstone. Mount Rushmore would also be cool, if we have the time.
